The next stop on our BBQ journey is Driftwood, Texas home of The Salt Lick. Also home to the most insanely delicious brisket and sausage we’ve ever tasted!
After speaking with Scott Roberts, owner and BBQ genius, we were sold on his unique cooking methods. The Roberts family recipes have roots back to the wagon trains in the mid-1800′s. They have a specific way of barbecuing the meat over actual driftwood in a giant pit. Why driftwood you may ask? Well, you’ll have to check out our interview with Scott Roberts to find out! You may have even seen The Salt Lick on television….on Food Network or Man v. Food! Be sure to check out our interview with Scott Roberts as he shows us the inside of his traveling Salt Lick pit as we get down and dirty in good ole Texas!
Here’s some photos to keep you salivating! Warning: do not view on an empty stomach!
Their special barbecue sauce has zero tomatoes so it doesn’t burn or become bitter. It does, however, have sugar so it will easily caramelize to create that sweet taste!
Salt Lick is so special that it has been voted Best BBQ in Austin over twenty times and was deemed Best BBQ Sauce in Texas by Everyday with Rachel Ray! It is a must do Austin attraction. It would be a crime to leave the state of Texas without trying this brisket and sausage!

If you are ever in Austin try Franklin BBQ. Easily the best brisket I’ve ever had.
